I have a 1988 holden astra (auto, hatch) There is a sports mode to the auto transmission that when pressed gives the car more revs and therefore more power. However when starting the "S" symbol on the dash flashes the book says this means there is a problem and pretty much all power is lost and is unsafe to drive. The book says to stop wait a bit and restart and if it keeps on happening take it to your holden dealer. We have done that twice and they have not found the problem. The crank and cam sensors have already beenreplaced and still no joy. So far $700. Does anyone have any advice?

If they can not fault find correctly why are they charing you for it? Does it show a code? Is it a internly fault valve ect?

They said the replacement of the two sensors may not be a fix for the problem but related to the other problem the car had, (It had stalled a couple of times for no apparent reason it happen to my wife while doing, a "U' turn on a highway, not a good thing!) Their hope was it was going to fix both problems.
It did not !

I reckon they are just having a guess, it looks like another trip back, it does make you wonder wether the senors needed replacing at all (expensive) I am certainly no mechanic and I do rely on them as "experts"

The cam sensors were a problem with this model.
They likely found the code in the system when checking for you.
Not sure on the crank angle sensor tho.
If the light flashing represents a problem then there should be a code (DTC) in the ECU for a trans fault.
Perhaps try a different dealer for a second opinion... dry.gif

Now that is certainly off point. But at the least some Muslims are coping with their present woes as opposed to belaboring his or her soiled beyond as conduct the Catholics plus Republicans. I imply Roe sixth v. Wade was a student in '72. Move with. Really.
