The clutches in LS1 gearboxes are certainly not strong enough. I've seen several in later models with total clutch failure/tow in. Turns out pressure plates don't hold up either. The diaphram springs like to crack!
Havn't had any reverse gear issues in my time but there were probs with the shift linkages rattling. Revised now, however.
VE's still use the Tremec 6-speed. The shift linkage is superior to the older style and the clutch slave cylinder is a lot easier to bleed now too.
The trouble I have, or hear about as well, is the lengthy gear shift distance. An option to reduce this imperfection involves fitting a short shift kit. I never liked the feel after but the changes are notably quicker.
Watch those heavy clutch kits....A lot of people regret installing. Depends how often you drive it I spose. Had one come into work a bit. Had the cam, nitro, big exhaust, MAF less tune, etc. Also had a bloody heavy clutch! hehehe Everyone, including myself, had ago moving it around the workshop, over time, and all of us stalled the beast. You need weight training for some of those clutches.
P.S. I like the Monaro front bar. Finishes the car off real neat!
