Car: VT SS II manual

here is a photo of my 3 commodores, the silver one up the back is a v6 exec modified to appeal asthecticaly with masive custom sound system(that car had one to many different installs, so much MDF) it was sold 2 months later to make way for the white vt ss II 6 speed manual in the midle, as you might notice it has black steelies in the photo, thats cos i was in the process of stocking it down to a berlina so cops would not bother me whilst on my P's, since then i am fully licenced and have brought it back and beyond the ss standards and now runs a full dual 2" 3/4 system to dual 3 inch dumpers from the cats back, with a rebuilt diff now housing 3.91.1 ratio with a masive shim and harrop diff cover. yet to get into the engine and trans. The vc up front is a SLE station wagon, the bar has been replaced at some point in its life and the head light wiper arms and absent but the motors are there. i plan to restore it to its former glory.

The 3 together before the silver vt was sold 2 months later

The silver exec, i really liked the monaro front, made the vt look tuff (shot taken out the back of work)

The ss in its stocked down form, you can still see the lip on the rear bar and the wing, these were removed later once i got a stock bar from the wreckers, i ended up putting black mub flaps also replace the dual tips with a pea shooter (the compresion coming out of the exhaust felt like somene was throught a tennis ball at me) and a STRAW HAT on the rear parcel shelf with a box of clenex from big request from mates saying to go all the way and make it a grampa car, nothing more funny then observing peoples reaction when a gramp car destroys em

Nice. I almost bought myself a GEN3 VT when I went car shopping last August. 3.91 ratio in that will hoot!

What you got planned for the motor?

I cant say i really have a preference yet, i like to be as hands on as i can with my cars so im looking at forced induction like capa's sealed vortech super charger setup with the general upgrades like roller rockers and valve springs those can be done at home then a quality maff tune at some work shop. but at the same time i wouldnt mind going a nice cam as im sure it can be done in home garage but with atleast a week off the road. i already have a mate teaing me up a maffles tune for only 500 dollars. not bad considering still cost around 1,600. im yet to really research into wat setup and comination to go with, but for know im fixing all the general problems asociated with the vt. Becouse my reverse gear is dodgey im thinking of shiping my trans of to get that fixed also at the same time get the final drive gear replaced with something more economical, replace the clutch and lightn the fly wheel(i hate how the gen 3's take so long to come back down in revs) tends to make me churp second and third unesaceraly. ive had the car up on stands for a while replacing most of the suspension componentry- sl king springs, kyb shocks (posibly might get 90 10 shocks up front), white line swaybar and linkages, gm strut tower brace (a must do), all new strut top bearing's and housing's, nolothane/ whiteline camber corection kit plus all other bush's. soon my mate is getting me a set of steelies that will fit some street strip slicks, im planing to get the offset just right so i dont have to roll my guards, ill probaly mesh it up with some slightly stiffer taller springs for the rear that i can just chuck when at the track. im planing to go down to calder soon with another mate with a vs s that has a trick up drive line. im not sure wat ET ill get but hopefully 13's or optimistic 12's

Your diff ratio, extractors, OTRCAI, Mafless tune and a cam you'll do low 13's at worst.

Chuck a CAPA on there as well and make sure you pack an extra set on undies everytime you drive it.

The clutches in LS1 gearboxes are certainly not strong enough. I've seen several in later models with total clutch failure/tow in. Turns out pressure plates don't hold up either. The diaphram springs like to crack!
Havn't had any reverse gear issues in my time but there were probs with the shift linkages rattling. Revised now, however.
VE's still use the Tremec 6-speed. The shift linkage is superior to the older style and the clutch slave cylinder is a lot easier to bleed now too.
The trouble I have, or hear about as well, is the lengthy gear shift distance. An option to reduce this imperfection involves fitting a short shift kit. I never liked the feel after but the changes are notably quicker.
Watch those heavy clutch kits....A lot of people regret installing. Depends how often you drive it I spose. Had one come into work a bit. Had the cam, nitro, big exhaust, MAF less tune, etc. Also had a bloody heavy clutch! hehehe Everyone, including myself, had ago moving it around the workshop, over time, and all of us stalled the beast. You need weight training for some of those clutches. drinks.gif

P.S. I like the Monaro front bar. Finishes the car off real neat!

Sorry that was the one thing i missed in my list. Aftermarket clutch (textralia Z & Y grips are popular for them) will do it a world of good too.

I knew it didnt look right. :-)

Hi all, the SS has had a few visual que's fixed on it, but the car currently has ve ss badging, VE SS 18 inch rims (could of gotten the 19's but they look a bit bland on my car, rubber cost a bit to much as well), monaro front with after market black monaro style head lights, havnt got the fog lights yet, Monaro 427 style tale lights with my own style VX calais black center garnish, yet to get the crome lip running along the rear garnish. but the basic jist of the outside is wat im happy with, i dont want to make it insane looking, i just wanted i nice revision to make the car look more modern the bonnet remains a stock item with the two holes for the bonnet badge visible, ill replace the bonnet when i find wats more practicle to complement the engine, it may just remain the standard as it looks ok atm. ill post some picks once i find my ###### camera
